The Senegalese President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, recently welcomed the new President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, to Dakar for a strategic meeting focused on strengthening democracy, regional stability and economic exchanges between the two nations. The meeting, which was widely welcomed by public opinion, marked a turning point in cooperation between Senegal and Ghana, two pillars of democracy in West Africa. According to an official communiqué of the Senegalese Presidency, they also agreed to promote regional security mechanisms to counter the growing threats in the sub-region, including cross-border insecurity and challenges related to violent extremism. On the social network X (formerly Twitter), Bassirou Diomaye Faye rejoiced at this meeting, declaring: “Happy to have welcomed my brother and friend John Dramani Mahama. Together, we reaffirm our common commitment to strengthening democracy, peace and prosperity for our peoples. “These propositions testify to the warm and fraternal relationship between the two leaders. This visit is in continuity with the commitments made at the inauguration of John Dramani Mahama, which the Senegalese President attended on 6 January in Accra. On the sidelines of this ceremony, the two Heads of State had already agreed to work towards solid bilateral initiatives, symbolizing a common vision for the future of West Africa.
