Mpumalanga Jailbreak: Third Escapee Isaac Malope Rearrested, 3 Others Still On The Run 

KaBokweni – Police have rearrested 25-year-old Isaac Malope, who was among the six escapees from the Lydenburg Police Station in Mpumalanga.

Six awaiting trial prisoners made a daring escape through a hole on Saturday, 29 November 2025.

The escapees face serious charges, including murder, rape, possession of unlawful firearm and ammunition, to malicious damage to property.

Malope is the third escapee to be rearrested since the jailbreak.

Thirty-seven-year-old Clayton Flank was the first to be rearrested at his hideout near Mashishing (formerly Lydenburg), Mpumalanga, followed by 38-year-old Fana Fenyane, who was nabbed in Sehlakwane, Limpopo.

Three other escapees, France Malatjie, Sergio Mandoza, and Francisco Vasco Maganja, were still on the run.

Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe said Malope would be appearing in court on Thursday, 4 December 2025, to face charges related to escaping from lawful custody.

“The police are closing in on the remaining suspects,” Captain Nonyane-Mpe said.

“It’s only a matter of time before all of them are re-arrested.  

“Isaac Malope, who escaped from lawful custody, has been re-arrested after receiving information from Crime Intelligence.

“He was arrested by the multidisciplinary team.”
