Haruna Iddrisu, the Education Minister-Designate, has announced a major effort to provide economic relief to first-year school students. During his assessing by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, he disclosed that individuals who have already paid their registration fees will collect payments as part of the ‘No Fees Stress ’ plan. The initiative, introduced by the National Democratic Congress ( NDC ) government, aims to make tertiary education more accessible and affordable. GH¢345 million will be earmarked to include admission fees for students pursuing public subject areas at open tertiary institutions, excluding specialized programs like medicine. “On the authority of President Mahama, and with the acceptance of the Minister of Finance-designate, Hon. Ato Forson, this clause will be included in the government’s Reset Budget. The funds will ensure that students undertaking courses in the general subject areas have their admission fees refunded, ” Haruna Iddrisu revealed. He more explained, “We intend to provide that income to the damaged colleges, at least one to make payment to all those who have previously paid those costs. ” The money may be distributed directly to the institutions, ensuring ready students receive their payments immediately. This plan is part of President Mahama’s broader perception of fostering a more equitable and friendly educational system in Ghana. It even fulfills a crucial claim in the NDC’s statement. The government plans to observe the program’s impact and explore its possible expansion to include more areas in the future, additional reducing economic barriers for students and their families.
