Premier League champions Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov from Ligue 1’s RC Lens. City stated that Khusanov has finalized a four-and-a-half-year contract. The Uzbekistan international will join Pep Guardiola’s team for the latter part of the 2024/25 season, with his contract lasting until summer 2029. Khusanov moved to Lens from Belarusian club Energetik-BGU in the summer of 2023 and has become one of the most promising young defenders in Ligue 1. At just 20 years old, the center-back has already made 18 appearances for his national team and has played a key role in Uzbekistan’s strong start in their quest to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. After finalizing his transfer, Khusanov stated, “I’m thrilled to be joining Manchester City, a club I have loved watching for a long time. This team is packed with some of the best players globally, and I’m eager to meet them and play together.” Additionally, Jose Mourinho has introduced his new wine, ‘The Special One.’ “Naturally, Pep Guardiola is one of the best coaches of all time, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to learn from him and enhance my skills. This is a proud moment for both me and my family as I join a prestigious club like Manchester City, and I feel fully prepared for this challenge.” After joining Lens from Belarus, the young defender made an immediate impact in the first team, helping the squad secure a seventh-place finish in Ligue 1.
