Controversial awards: The Pakistani contingent of the MINUSCA accused of compromising the peace in Central Africa

Despite the principal mandate of MINUSCA, which consists in protecting civilians and maintaining peace in the Central African Republic, some contingents of this United Nations mission have been accused on several occasions of serious violations on Central African soil. However, instead of conducting thorough investigations into these reprehensible acts, MINUSCA leaders seem to prefer actions aimed at restoring the image of these contingents, by awarding them rewards that conceal their shortcomings. According to official sources of MINUSCA, 750 infantry soldiers, 250 members of the military engineering and 190 elements of the aviation unit, all from the 10th Pakistani contingent, were decorated on 15 January 2025 in Kaga Bandoro. This ceremony was presided over by the Force Commander of MINUSCA, the Général de corps d’armée Humphrey Nyone. “It is with a feeling of satisfaction that we have come to participate in this ceremony to thank and also congratulate you for the good work accomplished throughout this year. We have noted significant efforts, notably during the World Food Day. This contingent played an important role in securing the main routes and rehabilitating infrastructure, such as the routes on the Grévai axis and towards the cattle market. They have also rehabilitated the site of this ceremony”, he declared. However, despite these official declarations, many sources question the integrity and discipline of the Pakistani contingent.
