On 30 January 2025, the Agence Nationale de l’Aquaculture (ANA) and the Fondation Veolia invite public, private and community actors to Mbodjiene, in the département of Mbour, for the official presentation of their aquaculture site. This event will highlight aquaculture as a strategic lever for the economic development of Senegal, while underlining its crucial role in the fight against illegal immigration and the creation of economic prospects for young people and women. By exploiting the vast aquatic resources of Senegal, this sector can generate stable and rewarding jobs for young people and women, dissuading them from seeking an uncertain future abroad. Aquaculture, as an inclusive economic activity, favours the financial autonomy of local populations and reduces social disparities. It represents a credible alternative to rural exodus and illegal immigration, while contributing to food security and the resilience of communities in the face of socio-economic challenges. One of the main objectives of this event is to show how aquaculture can transform the lives of young people and women, often the most affected by unemployment and precariousness. Through well-structured projects and appropriate training, these groups can access economic opportunities, notably in: aquaculture production: fish, shellfish and shellfish farming to meet the growing demand for fishery products; processing and marketing: adding value to aquaculture products to increase their profitability on local and international markets; services and innovations: developing logistical, maintenance and technology solutions to modernise the sector. As a public institution, ANA plays a fundamental role in the structuring and promotion of the aquaculture sector in Senegal. Through this event, it reaffirms its commitment to: Strengthening the capacities of local actors: through technical training and awareness-raising programmes. Accompanying Community projects: providing technical, financial and logistical support.
