During a recent press conference organized by the Conseil des Diffuseurs et Éditeurs de Presse du Sénégal (CDEPS), Maimouna Ndour Faye, the general director of 7TV, expressed major concerns regarding the governance of the media sector in Senegal. In the light of the above, the Commission considers that it is appropriate to extend the period of validity of this Decision to the period from 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2020 and to extend the period of validity of this Decision until 31 December 2023. She believes that this strategy undermines the independence of the media and creates a climate of mistrust. According to her, these officials do not have to intervene in ministerial decisions and their involvement compromises the integrity of the process. “One cannot come into a sector and, with every problem, contact Mamadou Thior or Daouda Mine. It’s not their role. These interferences do not legitimize the actions which go against the interests of the Senegalese press”, she declared. The director of 7TV also urged CORED to maintain a strict independence vis-à-vis the Ministry of Communication.
