At the Council of Ministers on Wednesday 22 January 2025, the Prime Minister underlined the importance and urgency of proceeding with a deep restructuring of the energy sector. To this end, it announced the setting-up, under the coordination of the Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines, of an interministerial committee responsible for drawing up a roadmap and an action plan to solve the sector’s cyclical and structural problems. “The committee should submit concrete recommendations by the end of January”, declared the Government spokesman, underlining the priority character of this dossier. The conclusions of this committee will be integrated into the strategic guidelines which will guide the finalisation of two essential projects: the law on the restructuring of SENELEC and the decree defining the modalities of participation of Senegalese investors, as well as the conditions for the elaboration of the local content plan in the electricity sector. These proposals will be examined at the next Council of Ministers, scheduled for February 2025, in order to ensure their adoption and rapid implementation.
