Women Should Be Given A Six Months Maternity Leave To Properly Heal And Bond With Their Babies – Agnes Naa Momo Lartey

During her screening by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 22, 2025, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Governmental Nomination for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, pledged to advocate for prolonged maternity leave laws in Ghana. Dr. Lartey emphasized the importance of prolonging the latest three-month pregnancy left to six weeks, highlighting that such an expansion would allow moms enough time to recover and bond with their new-borns. She stated, “It is essential for women to have a continuous keep period, not just to take care of the children but also to correctly heal. ” She even addressed the importance of paternity left, noting that extending parental left to fathers did maintain both parents have enough time to bond with their new-borns and promote caring responsibilities. This technique, she argued, coincides with modern family relationships and encourages gender equity in caregiving responsibilities. To accomplish these goals, Dr. Lartey expressed her devotion to collaborating with different partners, including civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, and female activists. She stated, “ I will stay with all partners, CSOs who are deeply into it, and I will visit the many activists to look at what is best and maintain that we push it. ” Now, Ghana offers a three-month pregnancy left to both spouses. But, Dr. Lartey’s request to expand this to six weeks has been applauded by many. Cause :Ghanacelebrities. web READ ALSO: Refused A UK Visa?
