United States: The anti-immigration police launches its first raids to expel the undocumented
The Trump administration announces the beginning of its policy of mass expulsion of migrants. It was one of the great campaign promises of the new American president. This Thursday, January 23, three days after his inauguration, the anti-immigration police ICE has therefore launched its first raids against the sans-papiers. The choice of these two cities is not a matter of chance, because they are “sanctuary cities”, i.e. democratic town halls that refuse to cooperate with the federal police in the hunt for migrants that it intends to track down to their places of work, their schools and their churches. “It would be inadmissible and reprehensible”, said Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who refuses to be intimidated. In the face of Tom Homan, the man whom Donald Trump has named ” Tsar des Frontières “, who has threatened to prosecute the mayor of Chicago if he prevents him from carrying out these mass expulsions, these first raids are not yet aimed at families, but only at individuals convicted and wanted for acts of serious violence. The Trump administration is thus making a double coup by striking at pro-immigration Democratic strongholds and arresting convicted undocumented immigrants to show that this anti-immigration policy is primarily aimed at ensuring the safety of American citizens. “The Trump administration has arrested 538 illegal criminal migrants”, she declared in a message posted Thursday evening on X, adding that “hundreds” had been expelled in army planes. Another very controversial aspect of this all-out struggle against immigration is the remission in question of the right to the sun ordered by Donald Trump.
