The Borno State Police Command has rescued two boys, aged four and five, after they were abducted in the Jan Block area of Jere Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahun Daso, confirmed the development in a statement on Friday.
According to the command, the children were among three boys reported missing on Thursday, prompting the Jere Division to launch an investigation. Later that day, one of the boys was returned home with a note demanding N10 million for the release of the remaining two.
Daso said operatives on Friday mounted a surveillance and ambush at the designated ransom collection point.
āAt about 0300 hours, the abductors, upon suspecting police presence, abandoned the two boys and the decoy ransom and fled,ā he stated, adding that poor visibility hindered efforts to arrest the suspects.
The children were rescued unharmed and reunited with their family.
The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, has ordered a discreet investigation to track down the fleeing suspects and directed divisional commands to intensify patrols, stop-and-search operations, and other measures to curb violent crimes in the state.
