Women and young girls of Idjerhe Community in Ethiope-West Local Government Area of Delta State today said they will hand over any youths caught killing fellow indigenes over cult activities and clashes to the police and security agencies for possible prosecution, in a bid to stop cult killings in their land. The protesters also prayed against cult killings and for the peace of the community.
The women issued the threat during a peaceful protest against cult activities, following the murder of four persons in a rival cult clash a week ago.
They said the earlier the youths renounce their membership of cult groups, the better for them. They noted that as a result of cult activities in the community, some women have become widows with children left fatherless.
The women bore placards with inscriptions such as, āStop killing each other. We are one,ā āWives are becoming widows,ā āWe need peace in Jesse,ā and āOur children are becoming fatherless,ā among others.
They marched through major streets of Idjerhe Community, chanting solidarity songs.
The women said they will not tolerate any cult killings from anyone in the community.
āIf we catch anyone killing a fellow Idjerhe youth because of cult matters, we will invite the police and other security agents to arrest and prosecute you so that we can have our peace. Enough is enough.ā
The women also cautioned the youths to heed their advice, saying they cannot afford to keep burying their young men, and prayed for Godās intervention in the land.
