
The 8 Division and Sector 2 Joint Task Force (JTF) North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), has bolstered its operational strength with the graduation of 60 soldiers from its demanding Fourth Quarter Basic Battle Course.
The event celebrated the conclusion of a rigorous nine-week training programme, aimed at fostering a warrior mindset and enhancing the combat readiness of participating troops.
Major General Ibikunle Ajose, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2 JTF (NW) OPFY, expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved by the Division Training School during his address to the graduates.
He stated the noticeable improvements in both training standards and infrastructure, noting their positive impact on field operations.
Ajose encouraged the soldiers to put their new skills into practice and to act as mentors for their peers.
“Share your knowledge, especially in weapon handling and live-arms drills, and let your discipline be an example to others,” he said.
Lieutenant Colonel David Ezebuche, Acting Division Training Officer, explained that the nine-week intensive course was designed not only to instruct soldiers in battlefield tactics but also to cultivate a mindset grounded in the “warrior ethos”emphasising personal courage, self-discipline, confidence, and teamwork.
The graduation ceremony also included practical demonstrations, where soldiers displayed their newly acquired skills before formation commanders and staff officers.
Top performers were acknowledged, with Lance Corporal Abubakar Rabiu earning the overall best graduate award, Sapper Popoola Ayomide securing second place, and Private Edore Ogbenefejiro finishing third.
The ceremony, attended by formation commanders, staff officers, and invited guests, ended with the presentation of certificates and group photographs.
