Driver knocks down, kills Lagos realtor over parking spaceĀ

A 36-year-old realtor, Yinka Agboola, has died after he was allegedly run over by a yet-to-be-identified driver during a dispute over a parking space at Royal Pine Estate, Orchid Road, Lekki, Lagos.

The confrontation reportedly stemmed from a disagreement between the suspect and residents over improper parking within the estate.

Witnesses said the driver became hostile when he was asked to move his vehicle to ease traffic flow.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Monday evening.

An X user, @Ifeoluwaar, who first raised alarm about the matter in several posts on Thursday, said the residents had offered the suspect an alternative parking space after observing that his vehicle obstructed movement.

Instead of complying, he allegedly threatened to kill one of the residents.

According to the account, the altercation gradually escalated, prompting Agboola, who was also a resident, to step in and help de-escalate the situation.

ā€œThe situation began when the individual involved was politely asked to move his vehicle from the middle of the road to allow free movement.

ā€œDespite being offered an alternative parking spot, he replied to a resident, ā€˜Do you know who I am? I will kill you right now,ā€™ā€ the post read.

The witness further claimed the suspect entered his car and, rather than driving away, began to reverse and accelerate aggressively.

Agboola reportedly attempted to restrain him, but the driver sped off with the realtor hanging onto the steering wheel before knocking him violently against a pavement.

ā€œResidents tried to stop him, but the suspect sped off with Yinka clinging to the wheel, then slammed the brakes, flinging him onto the pavement and into a gutter. He was left unconscious,ā€ the account stated.

CCTV footage shared alongside the posts captured the white Mercedes-Benz reversing dangerously toward a crowd, and another clip showed the moment Agboola was struck.

Residents rushed the victim to an intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital, where fundraising appeals for his treatment circulated widely on social media.

However, in a follow-up post on Wednesday, another user, @Omolomo, announced that Agboola had died in the early hours of the day.

The videos have intensified public pressure on the police to track down the fleeing driver, with the vehicle’s number plate also shared online.

Agboola’s sister, Oluwadamilola, told our correspondent on Thursday that the matter had been formally reported at the Ajah Police Division.

ā€œI went to the Ajah police station. The witnesses had already been there earlier, but I went yesterday to give my statement,ā€ she said, adding that the suspect’s whereabouts remain unknown.

When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, requested that enquiries be sent via text message.

She had not responded as of the time of filing this report.
