Police nab three for alleged gun running in Abia, recover seven gunsĀ 

Abia State Police CommandĀ  says that its operatives apprehended three alleged notorious gun runners and recovered seven assorted firearms at Obingwa LGA of the State, on Thursday.

The Command identified the suspected gun runners as Nworu John male, 65 years, Chikezie Ubani, male 65 years; and Collins Ukandu male, 55 years,

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, who made this known in a press statement, said that the operatives acted on ā€œcredible and actionable intelligenceā€ during the operation.

She said that exhibits recovered from the suspects include two automatic pump-action guns, three locally-made double-barrel guns, one single-barrel pump-action gun, one locally fabricated six-round revolver and four live cartridges, adding that interrogation and detailed investigation of the suspects had commenced.

ā€œIn furtherance of the Command’s sustained efforts to ensure the protection of lives and property before, during and after the Yuletide season, arms have been recovered, suspects have been arraigned for various crimes and successfully prosecuted in court. covert and overt operational strategies are firmly in place to ensure continued security in the State,ā€ he said.

The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police, Abia Command, Danladi Isa as assuring Abia residents that his Command would sustain the war against crime of all forms.

He urged the general public to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious persons, activities or security concerns to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency numbers.
