Trump says he will halt US aid to South Africa because of property law. 

​A property legislation signed into law by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, correctly, this month, said it would “expropriate land in the public interest.” The US leader alleged that current laws had made it easier for the government to seize land inadvertently and that West African authorities had been treating “certain classes of people VERY BADLY” He added:” I will be cutting off all future funding to South Africa until a full investigation of this situation has been completed” !Trump’s comments, made on Truth Social, sparked a 1.9 per cent fall in the South African currency, which weakened to R19 per dollar. Eventually, he claimed that the South African government was” some terrible things, terrible things” and quipped,” some terrible things, horrible things” without providing any specifics. An eviction bill was signed into law this quarter by President Cyril Ramaphosa. According to a speech on the South African government site, “local, municipal, and federal government will use this policy to confiscate land in the public interest for various reasons, among others, to promote equality and access to natural resources.” In the last year for which data was available, the US allocated nearly$ 440 million in aid to South Africa in 2023.
