Insecurity: We’re committed to welfare of Nigerian Army – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the Nigerian Army, as well as its professionalism and operational effectiveness.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Chief of Army Annual Conference 2025 opening in Lagos on Monday, Tinubu pledged continued support for the Armed Forces to fulfill their constitutional roles.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele.

Tinubu paid tribute to serving and retired officers.

“Their sacrifices, leadership, and institutional memory shape the Army. I commend the courage and patriotism of those placing national duty above personal comfort—their defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and unity is etched in our history,” he said.

The President highlighted the conference’s role in strategic reflection amid evolving threats, noting the presence of former Service Chiefs and elder statesmen as testament to the Forces’ heritage.

Defence Minister, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, said the event was vital for reviewing operations, as well as the Nigerian Army’s readiness and alignment with national priorities.

He called for joint operations, inter-agency collaboration, and a whole-of-society approach, insisting that outcomes deliver battlefield results.

Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu thanked Tinubu for his political will on welfare, equipment, training, and reforms. He equally commended the National Assembly for its support

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described security as the foundation of any development, commending the Army’s role and pledging state support.

Attendees included senior officials, Service Chiefs, former chiefs, security heads, diplomats, and dignitaries.

The conference will address operational, administrative, and strategic issues, including unveiling a biography of the late COAS Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
