Man (22) arrested for rape in N17 informal settlement

A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with the rape of a woman (47) in the N17 informal settlement.

The incident occurred after the victim returned home from work on February 1.

“She came from work, had a drink, and, being exhausted from work, fell asleep on her couch.

“The sound of the door to her home opening woke her, but she did not open her eyes as she assumed it was her friend coming to ask for something, as she usually did,“ said Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala.

“The victim, the next moment, felt a person climbing on top of her and pinning her wrists to the couch.
“When she opened her eyes, she saw it was a man with a black balaclava on. She asked him who he was and why he was doing this to her.”

He then sexually assaulted her.

“When she tried to scream, he put one hand on her neck, choking her and the other on her mouth.

“She then started to hit the side panel of her shack, trying to make a noise and get someone’s attention. He suddenly got up and ran off.”

Her friend then came in asking what was going on, to which she told her she was just raped.

She opened a case of rape.

The Family Violence Child Protection Services and Sexual Offences Unit traced and arrested the suspect.
