Renowned music producer and co-founder of Murder Inc. Records, Irv Gotti, has passed away at the age of 54. Born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., Gotti was a major force in hip-hop and R&B, shaping the careers of icons like Ja Rule, Ashanti, DMX, and Jennifer Lopez.
Gotti’s journey in music took off in the 1990s when he produced Jay-Z’s Can I Live from the 1996 album Reasonable Doubt. In 1998, he founded Murder Inc. Records, a powerhouse label that dominated the early 2000s with its signature blend of melodic hooks and hip-hop beats. His production style influenced numerous crossover hits and defined an era in music.
Despite facing legal troubles, including a federal investigation over alleged ties to a drug kingpin, Gotti’s impact on the industry never wavered. He won a Grammy for co-producing Ashanti’s debut album and remained a creative visionary dedicated to shaping the culture.
