Tension erupted in Gyado Villa area of Makurdi, Benue State, on Thursday morning after a suspected motorcycle snatcher was lynched and set ablaze by an irate mob.
The incident reportedly occurred shortly after the suspect was caught during an alleged attempt to snatch a motorcycle.
Eyewitnesses said residents overpowered the suspect before the situation degenerated into mob action.
Sources disclosed that two other suspects believed to be accomplices escaped from the scene in a vehicle suspected to have been used for the operation.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies were yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
