Moustapha TALL v SGBS: at the heart of a banking scandal and a quest for justice in Senegal

Moustapha TALL, Senegalese entrepreneur, exposes a complex dispute with the SGBS (Société Générale de Banques au Sénégal), which he accuses of institutional abuses, arbitrary practices and controversial judicial decisions. This conflict has its origins in a commercial relationship begun in 1980 and disrupted in 2004 by accusations of false declarations and irregularities on credits, which, according to him, caused a deficit of 1.5 billion FCFA. This situation was aggravated by the economic crisis of 2008 and the contested judicial decisions, resulting in losses estimated at 5,8 billion FCFA. Despite an attempted banking restructuring in 2011, tardive selon lui, les différends persist. Moustapha TALL also denounces an illegal sale of assets and a lack of transparency, due to a system which he perceives as favouring the large institutions to the detriment of local entrepreneurs. Faced with what he considers as a systemic injustice, Moustapha TALL calls for a profound reform of the banking and judicial system in Senegal. It advocates fair justice and transparent banking practices, which are indispensable to protect national enterprises and restore confidence between economic actors and institutions. This fight goes beyond his personal case: it is part of a broader quest for a Senegalese economy that is just, resilient and inclusive.
