Justice: La Lonase condemned to pay 5 billion FCFA

The Senegalese National Lottery (Lonase) has been ordered to pay 5 billion FCFA to the Groupement d’intérêt économique (GIE) Parilutte et Parilamb. On 20 January 2020, a contract was signed between the GIE and Lonase, with the objective of regulating their collaboration to develop sports betting on Senegalese wrestling. This agreement provided that the EIG would enjoy exclusive and non-transferable rights to organise these competitions under a mutual partnership model. A specific regulation, adopted on 20 July 2019, governed this activity. According to Libération, the conviction of La Lonase results from a breach of contractual obligations, endangering the viability of the partnership. This decision of justice represents a significant setback for Lonase and for its director general, Dr Toussaint Manga, who will have to manage the financial and institutional consequences of this affair.
