A fire outbreak on Sunday gutted the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Clinic along Maiduguri-Bypass in Bauchi, destroying hospital beds and medical equipment worth millions of Naira.
The fire reportedly broke out around 7:20 a.m., shortly after power was restored to the facility. Ezekiel Waziri, Supervisor of ECWA Clinics in Bauchi District, said the blaze is suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault.
According to Waziri, the fire began subtly from the roof before quickly spreading and engulfing the entire building.
āAll the beds, incubators, genotype machine, drugs and almost all the medical equipment in the clinic were destroyed,ā he said.
Waziri appealed to the Bauchi State Government and other relevant authorities to step in and help rebuild the clinic to restore healthcare services to the community.
Mai-Samari Bernard, Officer in Charge of the clinic, confirmed the scale of the damage, he said drugs worth about N2.5 million were lost.
Bernard said an inventory would be conducted after the fire is fully controlled to properly document the losses.
Director of the Bauchi State Fire Service, Dauda Pali, also confirmed the incident, noting that firefighters responded promptly and managed to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. He said the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Pali cautioned residents to take extra safety measures, especially during the current cold season when fire outbreaks are more likely.
