No safe haven for terrorists anywhere in Nigeria – Army chief

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has said that terrorists, bandits, and criminals will no longer be able to hide anywhere in Nigeria, whether in forests, deserts, or national parks.

He revealed this while addressing officers and soldiers of the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army in Ibadan on Monday during an operational visit.

Shaibu praised the soldiers for their recent achievements and encouraged them to keep up the good work.

“They must understand that they cannot hide anywhere. Rain or shine, in forests, deserts, or mountains, we will go after them,” he said

He said that criminal groups have often used hard-to-reach areas to attack innocent people, but such actions will no longer be allowed.

The Army Chief directed troops to intensify night operations, emphasizing that controlling key terrains was critical to limiting the freedom of movement for bandits.

Highlighting security issues in Kwara, Kainji Lake National Park, and Old Oyo National Park, Shaibu said,
“Orders have been given to clear all criminal elements from these areas. We are determined to remove anyone causing trouble in these terrains,” he said.

He commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and other senior officers for their leadership, saying the operational briefings reflected clear focus and determination.

The COAS also urged officers to continue leading from the front, describing leadership as crucial for operational success.

On troop welfare, Shaibu assured soldiers that their well-being remained a top priority.

“You will be given all you require, and all your entitlements will be paid as and when due,” he said.

He noted that approval had been granted for additional barracks construction and renovations to ease accommodation pressures.

He ended by saying that strong discipline, high morale, and better welfare were key to keeping the upper hand in operations and safeguarding communities across the region.
