Some of the women who participated in a recent protest rejecting the defection of Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have confessed that they acted out of ignorance and were deceived by the organisers of the protest.
Some of the women, who spoke to Daily Post on the condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation, said the state Women’s Wing, led by Mrs Elizabeth Yerse, capitalised on their ignorance and coerced them into participating in the protest, which they believed was in the best interest of the party.
One of the aggrieved women lamented that the organisers paid them a paltry N2,000, while some received N1,000 and others got nothing.
“You won’t believe that the organisers of the protest only gave us N2,000 at the end of the protest. Some women were even given N1,000, while some got nothing apart from bottles of pure water and doughnuts. We thought we were protesting in the best interest of the APC, not knowing that they used us to enrich themselves,” one of the women said.
Speaking in the same vein, another woman said:
“Those are our women leaders who really used us for their own gain. It was later that we got to know that our women leaders collected millions of naira from the party but gave us only N2,000 or N1,000. They exploited our ignorance for their own gain. Now that the governor has defected to the APC, what will they tell us?”
Yet another woman said: “I never believed that our women leaders would go to that length of using us the way they did. That day, I locked up my shop to join the protest, believing it was for a good cause and in the best interest of our party. At the end of the protest, after going round Jos in the hot weather, I was given only N1,000, which was not even enough to pay my way back home. God will judge them.”
Another woman lamented: “When I found out that our women leaders had been given millions of naira to mobilise us for the protest and they gave us such paltry amounts, I was shocked. If women could do this to their fellow women, only God knows what goes on behind the scenes. They really fooled us.”
“What I will say right now is to apologise to Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang. They made us believe he was not working for the state, but now that the APC has accepted him, does it mean he will start working for the state? Those of our women leaders in the APC really deceived us. I regret being part of the useless protest,” the aggrieved woman said.
