Kirikasamma LGA introduces monthly allowances for former officials in Jigawa

Monthly allowances for former chairmen, deputies, councillors and other past political appointees have been introduced by the Kirikasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa State as part of efforts to strengthen engagement with former leaders.

Maji Wakili Marma, the chairman of the council, while announcing the initiative on Monday at the council headquarters, explained that it aims to enhance collaboration and recognise the contributions of past office holders.

He further explained that under the scheme, former chairmen will receive ₦50,000 monthly, deputies ₦40,000, secretaries ₦30,000, while ex-councillors will get ₦25,000.

The chairman stated that the allowances would be paid regularly to ensure consistency and sustainability, with the aim of giving beneficiaries a sense of belonging in the area.

Commending the former officials for their continued support and cooperation in advancing the development of the local government, Marma noted that their experience and contributions are invaluable.

He said that about 100 former political office holders are expected to benefit from the initiative, describing it as a gesture of appreciation for their service and dedication.

The chairman also explained that the council took the step to foster better relations with former leaders and to tap into their wealth of experience.

Marma urged the beneficiaries to continue offering guidance and support to the current administration, saying that the initiative was also intended to promote unity and progress within the community.

He expressed confidence that the programme would strengthen local governance and contribute to community development, adding that payment of the allowances would commence this month.
