A young kayakist found himself in the mouth of a bowhead whale on February 8 off the coast of Chilean Patagonia, before being quickly released, unharmed. In southern Chile, on 8 February, a whale was briefly swallowed by a kayakist before being recovered. Adrián Simancas, 24 years old, was fishing near Punta Arénas, in Patagonia, when the whale surged out of the water, avalanching him and his yellow kayak. Frightened, he at first imagined that it was an orc since he had just spoken with his father. “Mais en ressortant, j’ai compris que la baleine s’était sans doute approchée par curiosité, ou peut-être pour communiquer quelque chose”. “But in the meantime, I have understood that the whale had probably approached out of curiosity, or perhaps to communicate something”. “All of a sudden, he is out”. The scene was captured and posted on social networks by his father, Dell Simancas, also on board a kayak. “When I came back, I didn’t see Adrian.
