The former prosecutor Alioune Ndao has detailed the mechanisms that could lead to a possible prosecution of former President Macky Sall, following the publication of the final report of the Court of Auditors on the management of public finances. This report, highly anticipated, covers the period from 2019 to 31 March 2024 and presents an alarming assessment of the country’s financial situation. It brought to light numerous irregularities in the management of public funds and a massive debt. According to the conclusions of the document, the public debt amounts to 18 558,91 billion CFA francs, or 99,67% of GDP. This figure largely exceeds the declarations of the outgoing regime of Macky Sall and confirms the already worrying forecasts of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko in November last year. Faced with these revelations, the former prosecutor Alioune Ndao believes that a thorough investigation could engage the responsibility of Macky Sall, thus opening the way to possible legal proceedings. It stresses that such divergences cannot remain without consequences and that measures must be taken to place responsibility and restore transparency in the management of public finances.
