Jannik Sinner, the reigning Australian Open champion and current world number one in tennis, has confirmed that he will serve the three-month suspension imposed on him by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which is effective from February 9 to May 4. It is important to note that Sinner acknowledged that errors made by his team resulted in him testing positive for the banned substance clostebol twice in March of the previous year. In a statement released on Saturday, Sinner explained that the clostebol was introduced into his body through a spray used by his physiotherapist for a cut, followed by massages and sports therapy. “This issue has been unresolved for almost a year, and I understand that the process could take much longer, possibly until the end of the year for a decision,” Sinner stated. “I have always acknowledged my responsibility towards my team and recognize that WADA’s strict regulations serve as crucial protection for the sport I care about.” Therefore, I have agreed to WADA’s proposal to settle these proceedings with a 3-month penalty.
