Ndidi Receives High Praise Despite Leicester’s Loss to Arsenal

Although Leicester lost to Arsenal in Saturday’s Premier League match at the King Power Stadium, Super Eagles player Wilfred Ndidi received a favorable rating for his strong performance. The football analytics firm, Squawka, rated Ndidi at 60 percent. They noted, “While typically one would expect Wilfred Ndidi to be focused on defense, he emerged as Leicester’s main goal threat with two shots in the first half.” Additionally, Squawka mentioned that defensively, the Nigerian contributed with four clearances, one successful tackle, and two interceptions. He also triumphed in three duels. Arsenal narrowed the gap at the Premier League summit to four points following a tough 0-2 victory against Leicester. The Gunners faced challenges in their attack due to injuries leading into the match. This marked the first occasion they began a Premier League match without Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, or Kai Havertz since the last match of the 2020-21 season. This absence was evident as Mikel Arteta’s team struggled throughout much of the match, with Ethan Nwaneri being one of the few bright spots. Nwaneri was responsible for the assist on the first goal, which was scored by substitute Mikel Merino with a header. Merino then added another goal late in the game to clinch the victory with a score of 0-2.
