UPDATE: The wife of the deceased EMPD officer has been taken into custody.

CrimeUpdate

The wife of the late EMPD officer, Banele Sikhosana, was taken into custody on Friday afternoon while preparing amid his funeral arrangements.

Sikhosana was fatally shot on February 7 while opening his tuck shop in Rest in Peace section.

Authorities later arrested a man at the Kwa-Thema Hostel, who confessed to carrying out the killing. Investigators further revealed that this was not the first attempt on Sikhosana’s life.

His wife had allegedly tried to poison him before.

A memorial service for Banele Sikhosana was held last week.

Acting EMPD chief of police Julius Mkhwanazi stated that the hitman admitted to being paid by Sikhosana’s wife, with the final payment made shortly after the murder.

One more suspect remains at large, but police report that an arrest is imminent.

A memorial service was held at Sikhosana’s home on February 13.

The arrested suspects are scheduled to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Monday).
