To give quality service to the people of Ekurhuleni, Executive Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza has called on all officials to hit the ground running to deliver such service.
At the first council meeting of the year, the mayor mentioned that the people of Ekurhuleni deserve quality service.
“At the heart of any effective local government is its ability to provide reliable, consistent, and high-quality services.
“Our people deserve clean water, well-maintained roads, efficient waste management, and uninterrupted electricity supply,” Xhakaza said.
Recent years of infrastructure neglect and backlogs have left many of the roads, bridges, public buildings, and utilities in disrepair and the mayor called for an immediate shift from reactive interventions to proactive, planned maintenance that ensures longevity and efficiency.
Xhakaza committed to the city to prioritising the following:
• Water infrastructure maintenance and repairs to mitigate water shortages and ensure sustainable supply to our communities is our number one priority.
• Enhance the usage of technology to safeguard our energy infrastructure to stabilise the electricity supply and reduce interruptions caused by cable theft and vandalism.
• Expanded waste collection services to address illegal dumping and improve sanitation across all communities.
He said the city will soon be launching a city-wide infrastructure audit to assess maintenance needs and allocate resources effectively; increase funding for road rehabilitation to address potholes and improve mobility; and fast-track repairs of water and sewer systems to prevent water losses and contamination.
“Enhancing maintenance of public spaces and parks to ensure safe and clean recreational areas for all residents is also a critical area of immediate intervention.
“Consequence management will be meted out against any inefficiencies from the staff,” Xhakaza added.
