Benue set for takeoff of first national food city complex

The rollout of Nigeria’s maiden national food city complex is set to begin in Ogyoma community, Benue State, with Governor Hyacinth Alia calling on locals to guarantee the protection of foreign contractors and project assets.

The governor’s charge came during the formal transfer of 34,000 hectares of land in Ogyoma, located in the Akpa district of Otukpo Local Government Area.

Leading the state delegation, the Executive Secretary of the Benue Investment Promotion Agency, Johnpaul Kpenkaan, accompanied government officials and representatives of the project consortium to the community, where they were warmly welcomed by residents, traditional rulers and chiefs.

Kpenkaan, who represented Governor Alia at the event, urged the people to prioritise the safety of visiting experts and safeguard the multi-billion-naira initiative.

Benue is one of six states selected to host the pilot phase of the national food city complex, expected to boost food production, processing and export capacity across the country.
