Kwa-Thema – Unknown men shot and killed Njabulo Ndala (23) at his place of residence on February 17.
His mother, Paulina Ndala, said the shooting happened at around 19:10 on Monday when she was home watching TV. She said her son was preparing to accompany his friend to work when death confronted him.
“I assume Njabulo and his friend were about to walk out when these men walked in because the car engine was on outside.
“I was watching TV when I suddenly heard four gunshots. I rushed to the window to see if I could see anything or where the gunshots were coming from. I tried to open the door but could not, so I peeped through the window again and saw two men in black hoodies running out of my yard.
“While the two were running, the gunshots were still ongoing. I heard my son scream for his life and realised he was the one being shot at,” explained Paulina.
She said she rushed to the kitchen door and saw the gunman leaving. Paulina said she walked into a pool of blood, with cartridges all around the room where her son’s lifeless body lay.
“They only took Njabulo’s phone, nothing else. To show that my son was the target, his friend was shot in the knee and shoulder but still managed to escape the scene. He was found two or three streets away from here and was rushed to hospital,” she added.
She continued, “I am grateful for my neighbours and ward Clr Thulani Dunjana’s assistance and comfort. They rushed to my house right after the incident to assist us as a family.”
She added that she was grateful for the friend’s survival because it might help them find justice for her son. Njabulo’s brother, Sibusiso Ndala, described him as a helpful, humorous and loving person who respected others.
“He was full of love. He loved cars and was good at fixing them. He taught himself how to fix cars.

“I will forever miss and love him. I am pained by his loss. Knowing I would now have to pay other people to fix my cars saddens me because he loved servicing my cars. As a taxi owner, I now fear for my life and might end this business venture,” he mentioned.
Sibusiso said he would miss his brother’s calls in the morning, saying he called him daily to check up on his well-being. He urged community members to look out for one another, saying he hoped justice would be served.
Ekurhuleni SAPS district spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela confirmed the incident, saying it is alleged that on Monday two male victims were in an outside room in Moshe section, Kwa-Thema, at 19:00 when two unknown men came in.
