A former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu has warned that any step made to grant amnesty to bandits is an indication to breed more criminals in the country.
Shittu made this revelation while featuring on a live radio programme tagged “Frontline”, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5FM, Ilese Ijebu, Ogun State on Wednesday.
DAILY POST reports that Shittu, who hails from Oyo State, served as Minister under the administration of the immediate past President, late Muhammadu Buhari.

But, Shittu while speaking on the radio programme monitored by DAILY POST on Wednesday, said that any effort made to grant amnesty to bandits will breed more criminals in the country.
“If you give amnesty to hundreds of criminals, you might as well open the prisons. It sends the wrong message,” he said.
While speaking on the move by some opposition political figures to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Shittu said that instability in the Peoples Democratic Party and other political parties is responsible for the defection of the politicians to APC.
“Nobody desires a one-party state, but when parties mismanage themselves, people will move to where there is stability. That is simple arithmetic,” he added.
