A US-based rights group said on Friday it has confirmed the deaths of more than 5 000 people during protests that swept Iran, adding that the vast majority were protesters targeted by security forces.

Human Rights Watch on Monday accused Israel of “unlawfully” using white phosphorus over residential parts of a southern Lebanese town last week.
