The Borno State Government has commenced the return of refugees from Gwoza Local Government Area who fled to neighbouring Cameroon, with the first batch arriving in the state after more than a decade in displacement.
The development was disclosed in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Dauda Iliya.
The returnees, numbering about 300, were received in Pulka as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to resettle residents displaced by insurgency.
According to the statement, the exercise follows earlier assurances by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum during his visit to a Cameroonian refugee camp on December 8, 2025, where he pledged to ensure the safe and dignified return of Borno citizens living in exile.
The state government said the repatriation programme would continue in phases, in line with its commitment to restoring communities and supporting the reintegration of displaced persons across Borno.
