After repeatedly hitting and suffocating her, Dlamini claims that she confessed, hoping that they would stop hurting her.

Springs – Sbongile Dlamini claims that she was tortured into confessing to the murder of her husband Banele Skosana (33).
Dlamini appeared for the third time at the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. In a written affidavit, read by her attorney, Dlamini told the court that she was tortured for hours on February 14.
The court heard how, after she was apprehended by officers, she was taken to Kwa-Thema SAPS.
She claims that she was in a room at the station with a few officers, who kept insisting that she tell the truth about her involvement in her husband’s murder.
“I told them that I was innocent,” it read.
Dlamini claims that the officers grew frustrated. She said they ordered her to take off her skirt and underwear, and to wear a diaper, which she did.
She claimed that after making her sit on a high chair, they covered her head with an evidence bag, suffocating her.
After repeatedly hitting and suffocating her, Dlamini claims that she confessed, hoping that they would stop hurting her.
Dlamini also admitted that she knew her co-defendant, but not as Nhliziyozabantu Magwanyana.
She claims that she and the deceased met Magwanyana when they were interested in buying a display fridge from him.
She admitted to speaking to him on the phone a few times. Dlamini said that the last time she spoke to Magwanyana was on the morning of Skosana’s murder.
She said that Magwanyana said that he would deliver the fridge on that day.
In the affidavit Dlamini also stated that her lobola was only finalized in November 2024.
She said she had no reason to want her husband dead, as a newlywed.
Dlamini also added that they did not have notable assets, therefore she does not have much to gain from her husband’s death.
In her application, Dlamini also said that she has a 15 year old child with special needs.
She said that she needed to be at home to take care of her child, because the child’ grandmother would not cope on her own.
Dlamini claimed that the child’s condition is the reason that she left her job as a teacher.
The state requested a postponement in order to verify the child’s condition.
Dlamini was arrested on February 14, following the arrest of Magwanyana on February 10 at KwaThema Hostel.
Magwanyana admitted to the crime, and through his confession, Dlamini was linked to the investigation. Skosana was gunned down on Vilakazi Street in Kwa-Thema on the morning of February 7.
The bail hearing has been postponed to March 4.
