The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a Ghanaian landlord, Mr Samuel Frimpong, for allegedly removing the roof of his tenant’s apartment at Chief Chike Street, Mgbuoba, Obio/Akpor LGA.
The tenant, Mr. Anozie Tochukwu, reportedly became the target of the action after failing to vacate the property within a two-week grace period.
Tochukwu, who has lived in the apartment since January 2024, said he has been consistent in paying rent.
He added that the landlord had informed him in late 2025 that renovations were planned and that his lease, set to expire in January 2026, would not be renewed.
“To give myself time to relocate, I showed proof of payment for a new apartment on February 1 and asked for 14 days to move,” Tochukwu recounted.
“But on the morning of February 3, my wife called to say the landlord had taken the roof off our home.
“Hours later, heavy rain poured in, soaking all our belongings. My pregnant wife and our two young children were left exposed to the weather.”
Tochukwu said his property, valued at roughly 25 million Naira, was destroyed or lost.
Among the items damaged were electronics, furniture, personal certificates, books, medications, and his nine months of savings.
Confirming the arrest, the Rivers State Police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, said: “The landlord has been arrested and is currently in police custody. Investigations are ongoing, and he may be arraigned after the process is complete.”
