​Management of public funds: in the face of scandal, the need for justice and restitution by Alioune Tine 

  The report of the Court of Auditors continues to arouse strong reactions in public opinion. The revelations on the management of public finances under the presidency of Macky Sall have caused a wave of shock, notably within Senegalese civil society, alarmed by the scale of the irregularities revealed. In his view, it is imperative to achieve a national consensus on the need to combat economic crimes effectively and to ensure the prosecution of perpetrators of misappropriation. However, it advocates a measured approach focused on dialogue. “It is essential to restore public money, but this must be done in a climate of serenity”, he says.In this perspective, he supports the approach adopted by the Minister of Justice, Ousmane Diagne, who favours a pedagogical approach aimed at recovering public funds without systematically resorting to criminal sanctions. “It is a delicate exercise which requires pragmatism and discernment, all the more so as the country faces many challenges”, he concludes.
