Yobe Assembly confirms Yabani as Chairman State Independent Electoral Commission 

The Yobe State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Yabani as the substantive Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, (SIEC).
The confirmation was for a first term of four years.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio said that the confirmation followed the presentation and adoption of a report of the House Standing Committee on Public Service and Government House, which reviewed the nominee’s performance records and curriculum vitae.

Recall that, Alhaii Ibrahim Yabani, was appointment by Governor Mai Mala Buni on the 18th of January, 2026 as Acting Chairman of Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YBSIEC).

The confirmation of Yabani has now set a proper tune for the conduct of local government election come June 6th, 2026 as ealier announced by the commission.

The commission has set 30 years as the minimum age for those wishing to contest Chairmanship election, while 25 years was set for Councillorship aspirants.

“All aspirants are expected to undergo security screening. Nomination fees have been pegged at N300,000 for Chairmanship, N250,000 for Vice-Chairmanship, and N200,000 for Councillorship positions”, YBSIEC said.
