US designates weapons suppliers in Iran, Turkey, UAEĀ

The United States has designated individuals and entities involved in multiple weapons procurement networks based in Iran, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates, for supporting Iran’s ballistic missile and advanced conventional weapons (ACW) development.

The U.S. government also sanctioned numerous shadow fleet vessels and their owners or operators that have collectively transported hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of Iranian petroleum, petroleum products, and petrochemical products.

The Iranian leadership, according to Washington, continues to mismanage its economy, with catastrophic consequences for its people, and prioritizes funding of foreign proxies and missiles over the basic needs of ordinary Iranians.

State Department spokesperson, Thomas Pigott, noted on Wednesday that the latest sanctions ā€œtarget the illicit funds that the regime uses to advance its malign and destabilizing ends.ā€

The action implements President Trump’s National Security Presidential Memorandum 2 by countering the Islamic Republic’s ā€œaggressive developmentā€ of missiles and other asymmetric and conventional weapons capabilities.

ā€œIt also denies the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps access to assets and resources that sustain its destabilizing activities,ā€ a statement by Pigott reads.

Washington says today’s nonproliferation designations support the reimposition of United Nations embargo and sanctions on Iran, which occurred as a direct result of Iranian ā€œsignificant non-performanceā€ of its nuclear commitments.

The U.S. reaffirmed its resolve to keep on using all available means to ā€œexpose, disrupt, and counter the Iranian regime’s ability to procure revenue to develop its weapons programs and fund its destabilizing behavior.ā€

Last week, additional sanctions were imposed on 18 Iranian officials, telecommunications industry leaders, and their immediate family members, following the shootings at the 40-day commemorations of the January killings.

The restrictive measures by the United States government currently affect about 60 individuals that participated, or believed to have participated, in serious violations of human rights of the Iranian people.
