Police arrest suspects, recover stolen vehicles, livestock, drugs in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command said it has arrested several suspected criminals and recovered stolen items, including a car, motorcycles, drugs and a cow, during recent operations across the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the command’s spokesman, on Saturday.

The police said that on February 15, 2026, at about 9 pm, officers from Hadejia ‘A’ Division stopped a dark green Golf 3 station wagon at Jama’are Gate along Hadejia/Kano Road. The vehicle was driven by Adamu Sani Ya’u, 29, with Musa Abdullahi, 35, as a passenger.

According to the statement, the car was “strongly suspected to have been used in conveying stolen livestock within Hadejia town.”

During a search, officers found animal waste and hair inside the vehicle. They also recovered a rope, dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, Rizler, a blanket and an extra number plate.

Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects may be linked to cattle rustlers operating in the Hadejia Emirate.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further investigation.

In another incident on February 18, 2026, at about 11 pm, some criminals reportedly blocked a road in Katarika Village, Taura Local Government Area. They attacked a man, Kalilu Abubakar, 35, and stole his motorcycle.

Police officers and local vigilantes responded promptly, and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment. The stolen motorcycle was later recovered, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects.

On February 24, 2026, detectives from Birnin Kudu Division arrested three men over alleged motorcycle theft. The suspects are Jamilu Yahuza, 30; Bello Sabo, 30; and Umar Garba, 50, who is believed to be a receiver. A stolen Bajaj motorcycle was recovered from them. The case will also be handled by the SCID in Dutse.

On the same day, police officers on patrol in the GRA area of Hadejia saw a man pushing an unregistered motorcycle. When officers approached him, he abandoned the bike and fled. The motorcycle has been recovered, and police are working to identify the suspect.

In a separate case, three bulls valued at N2 million were reported stolen on 25 December 2025 from Gauraki Sabuwa Village. Detectives later recovered one bull and arrested a suspect, Mamman Haro, 30. Police said he was also wanted in connection with a separate homicide case.

The command also disclosed that it seized 1,568 pieces of illegal drugs from suspected dealers during raids across the state. Several suspects were arrested.

“The Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property,” the statement affirmed, urging residents to continue providing useful information to the police and to comply with the law.
