Tinubu reappoints Audi as NSCDC chief for another five years

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for another five-year term.

The reappointment was announced in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

The statement said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a new five-year term. The reappointment took effect from Friday, February 27.”

Audi first became the NSCDC chief in 2021, appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His initial term ended last Friday during events marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.

“He will resume his duties on Monday with a renewed mandate,” the statement added.

According to the statement, “President Tinubu charged Audi to reposition the service to play a more significant role in the country’s security, especially as the police refocus on their primary responsibility of protecting citizens from bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists.”

Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa State, Audi began his education locally and later attended Teachers’ College in Jengre, Plateau State, earning a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate in 1987.

He went on to the College of Education, Akwanga, where he earned the Nigeria Certificate in Education in 1992.

He then attended Ahmadu Bello University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education in 1995.

Audi earned a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Calabar in 2001, a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University in 2014, and a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University in 2019.

He joined the NSCDC in November 1996 as a volunteer and became a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, after completing basic officer training in 1997.

Over the years, he served in several state commands and, in 2007, was promoted to Commandant and posted to the Commandant-General’s office at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.
