Nigeria’s security is responsibility of every citizen – IGP Disu 

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Ridwan Disu, has emphasised that security is the responsibility of every citizen of Nigeria.

IGP Disu stated this in his address during the commissioning of the Oyan Divisional Police Headquarters on Saturday in Oyan town, Odo-Otin local government council area of Osun State.

The project, which was sponsored by the Nigerian Police and facilitated by AIG Kayode Aderanti (rtd) and handed over to Oyan town, commenced in June 2023 and was completed in August 2024.

Represented by the Osun State Police Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Gotan, IGP Disu said the establishment of the Oyan Divisional Police Headquarters is about bringing policing closer to the people.

He noted that the police division will bring about improved response time, intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and fostering stronger collaboration between the police and the good people of Oyan and its surrounding communities.

He added that having the police division on ground in Oyan town will also reinforce the commitment of the Nigeria Police to safeguarding lives and property.

The police boss said, “This occasion marks yet another significant milestone in the ongoing efforts of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen security architecture, enhance operational efficiency, and deepen community policing across Osun State.

“The establishment and commissioning of this Divisional Headquarters is not merely about unveiling a building, it is about reinforcing our commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

“It is about bringing policing closer to the people. It is about improving response time. intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and fostering stronger collaboration between the police and the good people of Oyan and its surrounding communities.”

He reminded the residents that security is a shared responsibility and urged them to take ownership, protect, support and partner with the Nigeria Police.

He also charged the officers and men of the command to uphold the core values of professionalism, integrity, discipline, and respect for human rights.

“The image of the Command rests in your hands, let me also assure members of the public that the Osun State Command remains resolute in its determination to combat all forms of crime and criminality. We will continue to deploy modern strategies, intelligence-led operations, and community partnerships to ensure that Osun State remains peaceful and secure for all,” he stated.

On his part, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has pledged to provide operational vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers, APCs, for security operatives as part of efforts to strengthen the security architecture across the nooks and crannies of the state.

The governor also said the commissioning of the project marked a landmark point in history for public private partnership for state security.

He said, “Nigeria is presently challenged in security and Osun is surrounded by potential threats to its security, so public private partnership is a must.

“The state is under pressure in terms of security and the situation has led to another route to securing their state.”

Governor Adeleke also revealed that the state will launch a security trust fund in March, adding that the enabling law has been reviewed by the Osun State House of Assembly and signed.

“Osun is about to join the league of state with a security trust fund which will be launched in March. The enabling law for the fund has been reviewed and signed into law.

“The security trust fund will provide support based for local security services,” he added.

Governor Adeleke also noted that securing the community is a collective responsibility

The project facilitator, AIG Kayode Aderanti (rtd) commended the stakeholders for their support and also assured the immediate deployment of qualified personnel for effective service delivery.
