The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, has expressed concern over the spate of insecurity currently facing the state, calling for swift measures to tackle the menace.
According to the union, during its monthly congress held at its Alagbaka secretariat, Akure, the incessant security breaches in the state, particularly kidnappings, had become worrisome and requires immediate and urgent attention.
In a communique signed by Damilola Isaiah, Adebiyi Jimisayo and Joy Pius, which was issued after the congress, the union appealed to relevant authorities to effectively tackle the situation, emphasising that residents of the state had been subjected to constant fear.
While lamenting over the rise in kidnappings in the Akure North Local Government Area of the state as well as the Uso-Owo axis, NUJ maintained that the perpetrators of the crimes must be apprehended and be made to face prosecution.
The communique read in parts, “The congress expressed concern over the worrisome security situations in some parts of the state, particularly the increasing cases of commercialised kidnappings.”
