Former Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been killed in an alleged joint IsraeliāUS airstrike, according to Iranās semi-official Iranian Labor News Agency (ILNA) report on Sunday.
It was reported that the strike targeted Ahmadinejadās residence in the Narmak district of northeast Tehran, killing him along with several members of his security detail.
International media sources suggested the strike likely occurred late Saturday, though independent confirmation has not been immediately available.
Ahmadinejad served as Iranās president from 2005 to 2013. Prior to his presidency, he held key positions including governor of Ardabil Province and mayor of Tehran.
Following the completion of his two presidential terms, he was appointed by then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to the Expediency Discernment Council, a 48-member advisory body that advises the Office of the Supreme Leader and mediates disputes within Iranās governing institutions.
DAILY POST earlier reported that this follows the coordinated attacks launched on Saturday by the Israeli military and the United States against targets in Iran.
