Police Search For Robbery Suspect Sibongeseni Khumalo Who Escaped From Hospital 

Polokwane – Police are searching for 30-year-old Sibongeseni Khumalo, an awaiting trial prisoner who escaped from Thabazimbi Hospital.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said Khumalo, who faces charges related to robbing a business, escaped on Saturday, 28 February 2026, at about 18h00.

Colonel Ledwaba said police in Waterberg District, Limpopo, have launched a manhunt for the escapee.

Khumalo, who was in custody for business robbery, had been shot during his arrest.

He was admitted to the hospital and placed under police guard.

“The circumstances surrounding his escape are under internal investigation,” said Colonel Ledwaba.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the 30-year-old asked to visit the bathroom and ultimately escaped.”

Limpopo police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has ordered the police to make use of the available resources to track and trace Kumalo.
