A recent finding in Tanzania’s Olduvai Gorge has shown that early humans were making bone tools 1.5 million years ago, which is a full million years earlier than previously thought. A study uncovered 27 intact bone implements, probably crafted from the leg bones of elephants and hippos, which appeared to have been fashioned into hand axes intended for butchered remains of scavenged animals. Ancient humans utilized animal bones as tools for cutting approximately 1.5 million years ago.
