The Federal Government has suspended all Christian pilgrimage activities to Israel with immediate effect. This is coming amid deteriorating security situation in the Middle East.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC).
In a statement issued by the Commissionās Deputy Director and Head of Media and Public Relations, Mr Celestine Toruka and the Executive Secretary, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, said the action became necessary following recent security developments in Israel, including the declaration of a state of emergency.
Adegbite explained that the Commissionās primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerian pilgrims, stressing that all pilgrimage operations have been put on hold until stability returns to the region.
He added that the suspension applies to both government-coordinated pilgrimages and those organised by private tour operators.
āThe Commission is monitoring the situation closely and appreciates the cooperation of stakeholders and the media,ā he said.
The NCPC boss further urged Nigerians to offer prayers for lasting peace in Jerusalem and the wider Middle East.
Meanwhile, the commission confirmed the successful completion of its 2025 main pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan, noting that the final batch of pilgrims arrived safely at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on 3rd March.
